Course Outline

The EWPA Yellow Card Course (EWP) is designed to provide the underpinning knowledge and skills to operate an elevating work platform and boom-type EWP up to 11 meters safely.

The EWP course focuses primarily on the construction, mining, manufacturing, and related industries, where staff need to have the correct training to operate elevating work platforms. This training program covers the safe operation of EWP’s and boom types under 11 meters and is nationally recognised by the industry.

Entry Requirements

  • Basic verbal and written English communication skills sufficient to read material and understand instruction.
  • A Unique Student Identifier number (USI)- if you don’t have one go to- usi.gov.au
  • Provide photo identification.
  • Wear closed in shoes.
  • Sun protection is also recommended (hat, long-sleeved shirt and pants).
  • Pass a language, literacy, and numeracy assessment (LLN) if applicable.

Also due to the physical nature of the unit of competency learners must be of fit and able capacity to work at heights and wear the required PPE.

Course Details

How long will the training take (Duration)

Typically the training and assessment is competency-based and is a 1 day course.

How is the Training Delivered ( Delivery Modes)

Training and assessment are both practical and theory-based and delivered.

FULL COURSE TRAINING – Practical and theory training based on theoretical concepts and set tasks that need to be completed. The learner is then given a theory and a practical assessment.

Designed for all types of learners giving them access to the equipment and skills required to be competent in the practical skills and knowledge of working at heights in a very focused one-on-one environment.

Step 1 – Completion of theory training and equipment familiarization
Step 2 – Learner completes practical training in a structured learning environment in a small group.
Step 3 – Learner completes a final theory and practical-based assessment and is issued an EWPA Yellow Card as proof of training.

What will you learn? (Overview)

You will learn:

  • Basic Knowledge of the Elevating Work Platform
  • How to assess and secure equipment and the work area (routine checks, plan work)
  • How to operate the elevating work platform (driving, elevation, protective equipment)
  • Maintenance of the Elevating Work Platform (refueling, modification)

Course Outcome

To complete the course, students must successfully complete all assessments which are aligned with the EWPA Yellow Card.

Upon successful completion of the course requirements, students will receive a EWPA Yellow Card with the modules completed on it.

SL- Sissor Lift
VL- Vertical Lift
BL- Boom Lift
TM- Trailer Mounted Boom Lift

Your EWPA Yellow card will have an expiry date of 5 years.

In order to renew your EWPA Yellow card, you will receive a renewal notice. You must keep your contact details up to date with EWPA. If you do not renew your card in the 6-month expiry timeline you will have to complete the EWPA Yellow Card Course again.

Industry generally reccomends that your Confines Space ticket or SOA is refreshed every 2 years to remain current.
